Dear Goddess, Today, we went to the Grotto of Lourdes, in Emmitsburg, Maryland. We go there four or five times a year, and today the air was fresh with negative ions after storms the night before.
Mother Mary was our confidant as we strolled down the beautiful tree-lined pathways leading up to the chapel in the woods.
Pearl came along with us and she had a wonderful healing journey. Today she is 10 months of age.
At this very moment, we are outside looking at the lightning streaks across the sky, and Pearl is eating grasshoppers.
The lightning bugs are over, but the crickets are in their full glory.
I will sleep to the serenading crickets tonight, and think of Mother Mary in my dreams.

Dear Goddess, I recently started doing a body scan, as part of my mindfulness meditation practice.
Here are instructions for doing the Body Scan: Lie on your back with your legs uncrossed, your arms at your sides, palms up or down, and your eyes open or closed, as you wish. Focus on your breathing, how the air moves in and out of your body. After several deep breaths, as you begin to feel comfortable and relaxed, direct your attention to the toes of your left foot. Tune into any sensations in that part of your body while remaining aware of your breathing. It often helps to imagine each breath flowing to the spot where you’re directing your attention. Focus on your left toes for one to two minutes.
Then move your focus to the sole of your left foot and hold it there for a minute or two while continuing to pay attention to your breathing. Follow the same procedure as you move to your left ankle, calf, knees, thigh, hip and so on all around the body. Pay particular attention to any areas that cause pain or are the focus of any medical condition (for Asthma, the lungs; for Diabetes, the pancreas). Pay particular attention to the head: the jaw, chin, lips, tongue, roof of the mouth, nostrils, throat, cheeks, eyelids, eyes, eyebrows, forehead, temples and scalp.
Finally, focus on the very top of your hair, the uppermost part of your body. Then let go of the body altogether, and in your mind, hover above yourself as your breath reaches beyond you and touches the universe.
Through the process of doing the body scan, I realized how out of touch with my body I actually am.
For instance, I tend to ignore pain thus causing me to feel separate from all parts of my body.
Feeling pain instead of running away from it makes us stronger.
The same can be said for emotional pain. The more we ignore it, the more insensitive we become. Not only are we out of touch with ourselves, but also with everyone else we come in contact with.
Changing jobs caused me more emotional and physical pain than I ever was willing to acknowledge. Yet being smack in the middle of the experience taught me to stop comparing, dwelling in the past, and making assumptions about people’s motives.
The result is radical honest surrounding the whole of what is.

Dear Goddess, An unexpected thunderstorm just came up at 4 am today. Lovely streaks of lightening are illuminating the predawn sky. The negative ions are a wake up call. They wash the spirit clean.
Let us cleanse ourselves today, take good care of ourselves and bless experiences and people in such a way that nothing that happens is a disturbance.
All things pass.
God never changes.

Dear Goddess, Rebecca Pearl and I are sitting watching the lightning bugs on my patio around 10 o’clock at night. This night is humid and sticky. Pearl is keeping herself very busy by leaping and chasing not only the lightning bugs but any bug that comes her way.
I am going to try another topic for a 30 day prayer challenge for the month of July. The challenge will embrace all things Nurse Healers.
Then, at the end of July, I will launch the book: Prayer Prescriptions For Nurse Healers.
I updated the book but in reality, it stands on its own. The same topics I addressed in that book in early 1990′s are still relevant today.
Does this mean no progress has been made in the Nursing Profession?
I am about to walk in to two different nursing jobs, two different scenarios, with what I hope is a greater regard for nurses and nursing.
So my month on these new jobs will help to enlighten what it means to be a nurse.

Dear God/ess, Pictured here is the Unitarian Universalist Church where I grew up. Yesterday, I returned to attend a funeral of a gentleman whom I have known all of my life. His name is Jack Ward Willson Loose.
Mainly, he was my mother’s Republican friend and the two of them enjoyed sparring with each other. I think they needed the other to keep themselves on their toes. But then again, my mother, Kitty Loving Shenk, was always on her toes.
She dodged attack from the Religious Right as well as embracing Love from all of her admiring friends.
Jack Ward Willson Loose was a Lancaster Pennsylvania Historian. He knew everything about every property in Lancaster and the surrounding environs. He knew these things without looking anything up, although at one time, he without doubt did his homework!
One of the men giving a eulogy said, if there is an after-life, then Jack will be writing that history. Or if the history has already been written, then he will most certainly be editing it.
Jack was a Retired History Teacher in a local High School. His former students adored him. He taught in a truly Unitarian way, which is, if you showed up to class and participated intelligently, you got an A. Unitarians, for those of you who do not know, love a good discussion. They love to disagree in an agreeable manner.
I remember Sunday School where we explored all of the World Religions. We were taught that no one religion had all of the answers. We debated religion, even as we visited every church in the area, and then returned to Sunday school to debate some more.
Jack comes from that school of thought. He embodied Unitarianism to the tee—as did my mother.
Jack had one place where he sat every Sunday. If you mistakenly sat there, one of the church members would shoo you off without hesitation. Yesterday, one of the church elders had us all stand and clap toward that exact place where Jack always sat.
Something happened in that moment. Every piece of wood, every wooden beam in the immensely tall ceiling began to breath. The history of every vibrant molecule came alive. My parents were clapping too. So was Jack. And so were all the angels in the Multi-verse! It was a stunning tribute that occurred in one spontaneous creative moment.
I did not expect to be so moved at this service. I forgot my Kleenix, I stifled sobs, and barely saw my way our of the Church!
Tomaso’s 101 year old Aunt also passed this week. I will be sure to bring a whole box of tissues to that Life Celebration!

“Love is a state of being. It’s a forgiving, nurturing, and supportive way of relating to the world. Love isn’t intellectual and doesn’t proceed from the mind; Love emanates from the heart. It has the capacity to lift others and accomplish great feats because of its purity of motive”.

Dear God/ess, A poll taken over the last few days shows that a vast majority of Americans do not believe that hateful rhetoric has anything to do with the violence in our society, or the shootings as they occurred in Tucson Arizona.
Using David Hawkins’ Consciousness scale, pictured here, we can see that hate ranks very low on the scale, exactly the same as Apathy and Despair. Guilt and Shame rank even lower. If greater and greater numbers of people feel nothing but hate in their emotional pain bodies, as Eckhart Tolle would say, then the Collective Mind needs to get rid of it. By violence. By murder.
Imagine, if you will, a being or beings who feel and express nothing but loving thoughts. Love ranks almost at the top of The Consciousness Scale. If greater numbers of people had only love in the deepest levels of their psyche, then when words like murder, war, bombs, and guns were mentioned in the presence of these beings, they would have no comprehension of what these words mean. These same people may not even hear these words because they are so foreign and have no meaning.
We have a responsibility to strive for the highest level we can possibly attain on the scale, and the words we speak will take care of themselves.

Dear God/ess, On tonight’s radio show, “Kate Loving And The Collective Wisdom,” we are discussing the Tucson, Arizona shooting spree that targeted Gabby Giffords and killed several others, including a child, that happened over the weekend.
We will view this and other acts of violence through the lens of Astrological Phenomenon. Sheila Audet will be my guest.
This shooting is yet another example of hate and bigotry, leading to violence anywhere you find this kind of thinking.I remember when Sarah Palin brought out her US Map with crosshairs on the areas where she thought people needed to be plucked from political office. Congress Person Gabby Giffords was one such person in those cross hairs.
Someone said to me recently that she abhors Sarah Palin’s irritating voice, her grating shriek. My response? It’s her hateful tone, her negative power, which is much much worse. And dangerous.
Words have power. We must take responsibility for what we say and how we say it as well as the tone of voice of how we are saying it.
Once again, it comes down to personal response-ability.
Is anyone willing to look within the deepest recesses of their mind in order to manifest the Divinity of Love?
That’s what it will take to overcome these dark forces.

Dear God/ess, Another documentary film we watched over these last few days, is “Fierce Grace,” about Ram Dass’ life. I was especially taken with the concept of what Ram Dass calls, “Being Stroked.”
Ram Dass had a stroke in 1997, and nearly died. He believes he was spared because he still has work to do. He says he has much more to teach the Babyboomers about aging without fear. As he lay on the floor immediately after the stroke, he stared at the water pipes without any thought whatsoever about the Divine, God/ess or Higher Power. This was another sign to the great spiritual teacher that more work needed to be done on himself.
Especially as we embark on the year 2011, we may as well accept that unknowns will present themselves to all of us. These events need not be viewed as “Good” or “Bad.” They simply are “What Is.” Certainly outside events will spell success or failure on many fronts. Certainly it is much better to view everything that happens to us as learning opportunities.
Let us first of all remember to take what is happening “out there” as a further signature to focus more intently on what is happening “in here,” that is, in the inner sanctuary of our mind(s).
Let us always remember that none of us is ever alone, in this year, and all the years to come.
